The story behind the livery
By 1992, the Hawker Siddeley HS-748 had served Philippine Airlines for nearly 25 years — an extraordinary run that had taken the aircraft to virtually every corner of the Philippine archipelago. The 1992 livery represents PAL in its modern pre-privatisation era, wearing a bold and colourful scheme that was a dramatic departure from the more restrained designs of the 1960s and 1970s. This final livery captures the HS-748 in its twilight years with PAL, still faithfully serving the provincial routes that had defined its entire career with the airline, before newer turboprops and regional jets began taking over. It is the most contemporary of the three PAL HS-748 schemes and the one that brings the collection full circle.
Collected together, the 1968, 1975, and 1992 Philippine Airlines HS-748 decals document an unbroken 25-year relationship between one of Asia's oldest airlines and one of Britain's most capable regional turboprops.
