The story behind the livery
When British Airways was formed in 1974 through the merger of BOAC and BEA, it inherited a diverse fleet that included the Hawker Siddeley HS-748 for regional and Scottish Highland routes. The 1976 livery represents the aircraft wearing the original British Airways colour scheme in its very first years — the classic Negus & Negus design with its bold dark blue and gold speedbird branding that is today considered one of the most elegant airline liveries ever produced. The HS-748 served BA faithfully on routes to smaller British airports and Scottish islands that larger jets simply could not serve, making it an essential but often overlooked part of the early British Airways story.
This is the first of three British Airways HS-748 liveries in the Memodec collection, together spanning a decade of the airline's visual evolution from 1976 to 1986.
