The story behind the livery
Philippine Airlines was an early and enthusiastic operator of the Hawker Siddeley HS-748, using the reliable British turboprop to connect Manila with the provincial cities and islands of the Philippine archipelago throughout the late 1960s and beyond. The 1968 livery represents PAL in its classic pre-modernisation era — a colour scheme of considerable elegance that reflected the airline's status as Asia's oldest carrier and its pride in serving a nation of over 7,000 islands. The HS-748 was perfectly suited to the shorter runways and varied terrain of the Philippine provinces, making it an essential tool in PAL's mission to bring air travel to every corner of the country.
This is the first of three Philippine Airlines HS-748 liveries in the Memodec collection, spanning nearly 25 years of the airline's operations with this type from 1968 to 1992.
