The story behind the livery
By 1985, Philippine Airlines had operated the BAC 1-11 sr.500 for over a decade on its domestic network, and the aircraft had become a familiar sight at airports across the Philippine archipelago. The 1985 livery represents the type in its mature PAL years — a refined evolution of the colour schemes seen earlier in the decade, and one of the last iterations before the airline began transitioning toward newer aircraft types. This is the third and final scheme in the Memodec PAL BAC 1-11 series, rounding out a complete decade of the airline's visual identity from 1975 to 1985.
Collected together, the three PAL BAC 1-11 decals tell the story of one of Asia's oldest airlines through a single aircraft type across ten years of operations.
