The story behind the livery
Air Malawi was the national carrier of the landlocked Republic of Malawi, operating domestic and regional services across southern and eastern Africa from its base in Blantyre. The Hawker Siddeley HS-748 — a rugged British turboprop built for exactly this kind of challenging, underserved route environment — was perfectly suited to Malawi's short runways and remote destinations. The 1988 livery captures the airline in its mature years, sporting the national colours with quiet pride at a time when many African carriers were struggling to maintain aging fleets. Air Malawi ceased operations in 2013, and its liveries remain virtually unknown outside specialist African aviation circles.
