The story behind the livery
Indian Airlines was the state-owned domestic carrier of India, operating an extensive network of routes connecting cities and towns across the subcontinent. The Hawker Siddeley HS-748 was one of the most important aircraft in the Indian Airlines fleet throughout the 1970s and 1980s, serving smaller regional airports that could not accommodate larger jets and opening up air travel to communities far from major hubs. India operated one of the largest HS-748 fleets in the world, and the 1979 livery — with its distinctive Indian Airlines colour scheme of the era — is an iconic image of subcontinental aviation at a time of rapid economic and social change.
Despite the scale of Indian Airlines' HS-748 operations, this livery remains almost entirely absent from the Western scale modelling market, making it a genuinely rare find.
