The story behind the livery
The 1988 scheme marks the end of Merpati Nusantara's Vickers Viscount service — one of the longest continuous Viscount operations of any Asian carrier. By the late 1980s, the Viscount was a rare sight on scheduled airline routes anywhere in the world, and Merpati's continued use of the type deep into this decade reflects the extraordinary resilience of the Indonesian inter-island network and the aircraft's suitability for it.
This is the final and rarest scheme in the Merpati Viscount trilogy available in this series. Paired with the 1973 and 1985 versions, it completes one of the most comprehensive portrayals of a single airline's turboprop history available anywhere in the decal market.
