The story behind the livery
Royal Air Lao was the national airline of the Kingdom of Laos, operating during one of the most turbulent periods in Southeast Asian history. Founded in 1956, the airline connected Vientiane with regional destinations across Indochina, flying through an era of political upheaval and the Vietnam War — until the 1975 communist takeover ended the kingdom itself. The Convair CV-440 Metropolitan was the workhorse of this small but stoic carrier, keeping Laos connected to the wider world even as the country's fate hung in the balance. Today, Royal Air Lao liveries are extraordinarily rare in the scale modelling world, making this decal a genuine collector's piece.
This decal set faithfully reproduces the complete 1975 Royal Air Lao livery: fuselage titles in both English and Lao script, national flag markings, registration numbers, and full window lines — all researched from historical photographic references.
