The story behind the livery
The year 2001 was the most dramatic in Crossair's history. Following the financial collapse of parent company Swissair in October 2001, Crossair was unexpectedly thrust into the role of rescuing Swiss international aviation — absorbing Swissair's long-haul routes and transforming almost overnight from a regional carrier into the de facto national airline of Switzerland. The 2001 livery captures this extraordinary transitional moment: aircraft still wearing the Crossair identity while the airline was already being rebuilt into what would become Swiss International Air Lines in 2002.
Paired with the 1997 Crossair MD-83 decal, this scheme completes a compelling two-livery portrait of one of Europe's most eventful airline stories — from confident regional carrier to reluctant national saviour in just four years.
