The story behind the livery
Ethiopian Airlines, founded in 1945, is Africa's oldest and most successful airline — and one of the very few carriers on the continent to have operated continuously without interruption. By 1981, Ethiopian Airlines was still flying the Douglas DC-3 on domestic routes connecting remote highland communities and regional towns that were inaccessible to larger jet aircraft. In a country with few roads and vast distances, the DC-3 was not a relic — it was an essential lifeline. This late-era livery, worn decades after most airlines had retired the type, is a remarkable piece of African aviation history that is almost never reproduced in decal form.
