The story behind the livery
Far Eastern Air Transport was one of Taiwan's earliest private airlines, founded in 1957 and operating domestic and regional routes throughout the 1960s and 1970s. The Caravelle 6N was a bold modernisation step for the airline — bringing European rear-engined jet technology to Taiwan at a time when the island's aviation market was rapidly growing but still relatively small. In 1972, FAT was operating the Caravelle on domestic Taiwanese trunk routes, bringing jet travel to passengers who had previously flown on piston-engined equipment. The elegant French design, with its distinctive rear-mounted engines and clean nose profile, was a striking sight on Taiwanese aprons during this transitional decade.
The FAT Caravelle 6N is a genuinely obscure subject — rarely modelled and almost entirely absent from the decal market — making this one of the more specialist and historically rewarding items in the memodec Caravelle range.
