The story behind the livery
LTU — Lufttransport-Unternehmen — was one of West Germany's most successful charter airlines, specialising in leisure flights to the Mediterranean and Canary Islands from its Düsseldorf base. The Caravelle 10R was the most powerful and refined variant of the Sud Aviation family, and LTU operated it during the early 1970s at the peak of the West German package holiday boom — a period when millions of Germans were discovering affordable sunshine travel for the first time. The 1970 livery captures LTU's Caravelle in a clean and elegant scheme that reflected the aspirational, optimistic spirit of West German consumer society at the dawn of the mass tourism era.
