The story behind the livery
Germania was a West German charter airline founded in 1978, and its decision to operate the Caravelle in the mid-1980s placed it among the very last European carriers to fly the type commercially. By 1986, the Caravelle was a veteran of nearly three decades of airline service — yet Germania continued to find the French jet economically viable on its holiday charter routes, flying sun-seekers to Mediterranean destinations at a time when most competitors had long since retired the type in favour of Boeing or Airbus equipment. The 1986 livery captures the aircraft in a bold and colourful German charter scheme, one of the final expressions of the Caravelle in active European commercial service.
