The story behind the livery
Where the Shorts 330 was Thai Airways International's entry into turboprop regional operations, the 360 represented the mature, stretched development of the same concept — more seats, improved performance, and greater commercial viability on the domestic feeder routes that connected provincial Thai cities to the airline's Bangkok hub. Both types served simultaneously in 1989, wearing identical Thai Airways International liveries and operating side by side on routes that larger jets could not serve economically. The elegant purple and gold of Thailand's flag carrier looked as striking on the boxy Shorts 360 fuselage as on any of the airline's more glamorous widebody types, making it one of the most visually compelling contrasts in Thai aviation history.
Paired with the Shorts 330 in the same 1989 Thai Airways International scheme, this decal completes a perfectly matched pair — two Belfast-built turboprops in flag carrier colours, documenting a forgotten but fascinating chapter in the history of one of Asia's great airlines.
