The story behind the livery
Allegheny Airlines was one of America's great regional carriers, founded in 1937 and serving the northeastern United States for decades. By 1979, the airline was at a crossroads — operating Boeing 727-100s on a dense network of routes connecting cities across Pennsylvania, New York, and New England, while preparing for the major changes that aviation deregulation would bring. Just a year later, in 1980, Allegheny would rebrand as USAir, marking the end of one of America's most storied regional airline identities. This 1979 livery captures Allegheny in its final year, making it a historically significant and rarely reproduced collector's piece.
This decal set faithfully reproduces the complete 1979 Allegheny Airlines livery: fuselage titles, airline markings, registration numbers, and full window lines — all researched from historical photographic references.
